Project Background.
The Spark Corps design education product line is collection of educational materials that introduce kids to design while also helping them to build fundamental social skills. The line currently consists of the Spark Your Design Creativity book, Creatovate, an a comprehensive classroom curriculum. In addition, current Spark Corps designers are building out the newest aspect of the line, Flashlight, a cohesive brand that pulls all of these elements together. I joined the project in the Spring of 2015 where I lead design research and curriculum development efforts. The following aims to highlight my role in the project as well as the overall development of the brand.
MASTER TIMELINE:
PHASE 1: CONCEPT INCEPTION
PHASE 2: RESEARCH
PHASE 3: DESIGN CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
PHASE 4: BOOK DESIGN AND KICKSTARTED
PHASE 5: PROMOTION & AWARDS
NEXT STEPS: FLASHLIGHT BRAND
Over the summer of 2017, I worked with Design Apprentices Veronica Orrechia and Aaron Ringel to develop a cohesive brand around Spark Your Design Creativity, Creatovate and future product line developments. Work was lead by Aaron and Veronica, where my role served as an advisor and mentor. I encouraged them to think about various customer touchpoints, user needs, and the various stakeholders the brand could engage with. The result of this work is a new product line brand called Flashlight. To learn more about flashlight by following their instagram at @flashlightdesign or by visiting Spark Corps' website at www.sparkcorps.org.
